Dress for Success

Ephesians 6:11 says, Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

A friend once told me to physically go through the motions of putting on the armor of God every morning. So I did just that for quite a period of time. I acted out putting on each piece to remind myself Satan’s schemes against me are real. It helped me to remember I need God’s protection at every moment.

The Good News Translation of this verse says, “Put on all the armor that God gives you, so that you will be able to stand up against the Devil's evil tricks.

Satan is our real enemy. He walks through people, circumstances, trials, and temptations as an attempt to destroy us at every turn. And boy-oh-boy, is he ever tricky! But when I am wearing the armor of God, I can take my stand against Satan - the dirty, rotten liar - and His attacks are warded off with God’s truth in Scripture.

If possible, stand up right now and put on the armor - God’s armor. And beloved of God, stand against the Devil every day! It won’t be long till the fight will be over. We win in the power of Jesus’ name!

The Way of Escape

Matthew 6:13b says, “but deliver us from the evil one.”

Jesus alone is the only Deliverer from evil! Write this down on your heart. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life! He’s the Conqueror King! He’s the Resurrection and the Life, and there is no evil in Him!

Though temptation creeps in and Satan entices us to sin, God, our Father, promises a way of escape. He provides a means of rescue through his Son, Jesus.

So today, when things go right or wrong, when you think you can make it on your own, or even if you can no longer make it at all, know this. He will deliver you from whatever temptation comes your way. As James 4:7 reminds us, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

And there you go!

Able to Deliver

Matthew 6:11 says, “Give us today our daily bread.”

God will provide! Ask Him, church!

He’s aware of our need for food, drink and clothing. Each day we live is a gift from Him. He knows what every day will be like and exactly what we will need as we go about it.

Jesus is telling us in this passage to have faith that God will provide our needs for today. In Exodus 16, the Israelites trusted He would provide food for that day. God rained down bread from heaven in the form of manna. They were not to hoard for tomorrow, but rather trust that God would again provide the following day. For those who disobeyed and gathered too much, there were worms in their manna. Exodus 16:20 tells us it was really quite stinky!

Tell Him your needs for today, brothers & sisters. Don’t worry about tomorrow. Today has enough trouble of its own. You can trust Him. He is able to deliver, and He’s always right on time.

And there you go!

Generous Giving

Luke 6:38 says, "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

I believe Jesus is saying to be generous with what you have, and He will provide what you need. If you hold back from sharing with others, then how can God entrust you with more? Especially if we decide to hoard those things for ourselves.

If you and I see a brother in need and give to him when he needs it, God will help us in our own time of need.

In my Bible study, “Free to Obey”, I tell the story of a family who gave their mini-van to a missionary couple who were without transportation. God then provided the family with another van, which they promptly gave to another missionary couple who desperately needed it. They didn’t get brand new cars back, but they have never been without transportation. We hope to teach our kids to share. This story is an example of people who lived it.

If God says we should give, we must remember that everything we have is His. He will not forsake us. His blessings of provision, while not luxury, are promised to us.
